Faculty Pre-Program Survey

Hi, Everyone:

Joan Gunderson of Luther College requested information to help LC do a survey of faculty members about service-learning.  I will be undertaking a similar survey at a university in Beirut before we begin our program to enhance civic engagement. We are interested in whatever form of civic engagement exists - volunteering, service clubs, community-based research, internships, service-learning, etc. Hopefully Joan will share the results of her inquiry.  Please send any additional ideas or suggestions that fit my broader needs to me, and I, too, will share the results with everyone.

Subject: assessing readiness

Hello,

Luther College, a small ELCA affiliated private liberal arts school in the

midwest, is preparing to send out a survey to faculty members to assess how

much service-learning is going on already as well as to find out how

interested faculty members are in the concept itself.  I know that most

schools do a similar survey when they are just starting out with their

volunteer and service-learning programs.  What are the most effective

questions to ask?  What format seems to work best?  If any one has a copy

of their surveys, could you send it as an attachment?  Information from

schools of similar size would be especially helpful.

Please respond to both wangbeju@luther.edu and gunderje@luther.edu Thanks so much! Joan
