The Kernodle Center for Service Learning at Elon University in North Carolina
has an opening for an outreach coordinator. This is a new position, and is a
part-time, temporary position until June 30, 2003. Housing is available if
necessary. A summary of the position is below; please see the attached job
description for more details.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
During the 2001-2002 academic year, Elon students performed more than 58,800
hours of service to the community. One of the major programs coordinated by the
Kernodle Center for Service Learning is the Course-Linked Service Learning
program, involving 29 courses and more than 500 students per year. This is done
in collaboration with more than 40 community agencies.
This part-time staff member will be responsible for creating and maintaining
partnerships with non-profit agencies and schools to develop site placements
for Elon students. These partnerships will provide opportunities for students
to be engaged in the community while enhancing the quality of their educational
experiences. These placements will be used for students involved in both
Course-Linked Service Learning and Elon Volunteers! programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Identify potential new partnerships by contacting agencies that
do not already host Elon students
* Visit new and existing community agencies to learn about their
organizations' mission, structure, and how they can be involved with the
Kernodle Center
* Meet with faculty to identify learning objectives that service
experiences can help attain and assist in designing an appropriate project
* Train agency staff on how to effectively coordinate scheduling
and logistics of placing new volunteers
* Assist with training workshops for faculty members on how to
integrate a service experience into the curriculum
* Maintain ongoing communication with faculty, agencies, and students to
monitor and assess quality of experience
