*please excuse cross-postings

Dear Colleagues,

This fall, Community-Campus Partnerships for Health will undertake a
number of initiatives to benefit our members and provide new opportunities
for involvement and professional growth. All are intended to advance our
goals of:
*Building the capacity of communities and higher educational institutions
to engage each other as partners
*Incorporating service-learning into the education of all health
professionals
*Recognizing and rewarding faculty for community-based teaching, research
and service
*Developing partnerships that balance power and share resources among
partners

The initiatives highlighted below are made possible through the generous
support of the Corporation for National Service and the Helene Fuld Health
Trust, HSBC Trustee. We invite you to participate and get involved! To
become a member of CCPH, print a membership application from our website
at futurehealth.ucsf.edu/ccph/members.html. To be placed on our direct
email list for future updates, please email Rose Coroneos at
rosecor@u.washington.edu

BUILDING A VITAL AND VALUED LINK TO RESOURCES: Thanks to our web master
Kat Ascharya, we will be launching a new web in October that will be
easier to navigate and will contain many more useful resources. For
example, new sections on service-learning and community-based
participatory research will provide definitions, models, syllabi,
references and web site links. The home page will contain new content
each month, including a featured member and news of the latest policy
developments in health, community development and higher education.

DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP FOR COMMUNITY-CAMPUS PARTNERSHIPS: Through a
competitive application process, we will select faculty and community
leaders to serve as the inaugural class of CCPH fellows. Fellows will
serve in three important roles: as community-campus partnership leaders
and advocates within their national associations; as knowledgeable
experts, providing training and consultation to CCPH members and
completing special projects; and as advisors to CCPH by sharing their
ideas for new program and policy development.

ADVANCING SERVICE-LEARNING PARTNERSHIPS IN THE HEALTH PROFESSIONAL
DISCIPLINES: CCPH will make grants to national associations in health
professions education that have demonstrated a commitment to fostering
service-learning partnerships among their members. Funds will support the
development of conference tracks, special interest groups, theme journal
issues, institutional policy development, and other activities designed to
advance service-learning partnerships in the discipline.

DEVELOPING STRONG, SUSTAINABILE COMMUNITY-CAMPUS PARTNERSHIPS: CCPH's
Mentor Network of trainers and consultants will be expanded and supported
by a full-time coordinator. A greater emphasis will be placed on training
and consultation with community-based organizations and their national
associations, building their capacity to engage and sustain higher
educational institutions as partners.

DEVELOPING REGIONAL LEADERSHIP AND PROGRAMS: CCPH will support
the development of Regional Networks of members. Emerging Regional
Networks in the Midwest, Northeast, and West will be supported in their
strategic planning and programming efforts.
