In response to Please, No Ribbons

Ribbons or no ribbons, for us here in the middle of New York City any way to
reach out to let people know you are thinking of them makes an enormous
difference. The emails i've received, the phone calls that have made it
through have reminded me of things that are important: community, family,
friends. Those who have lost much of that need all the gestures we can think
of. That gesture is ribbons for some, flags for others, flowers piled at
the foot of a statue, an email or note to a friend. What we need here in
New York is to know we are not alone. That this is not just ours to deal
with, because it is too huge, too overwhelming, and too insane for us to
handle alone. I can only speak for myself, but I welcome all the gestures I
can get, as long as it is heartfelt and means something to the one passing
it along.
