service learning information

Hi everyone,
My name is Jennifer Elliott and I am the new Service Learning Coordinator for Lethbridge Community College in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Another individual ran the program for the first year. I am looking for information on  a couple of items: since this is a fairly new project, year 2 of a 3 year pilot program funded by the Wild Rose Foundation,  we have been able to create a base but it is definately time to expand and go BIG! I would love to brainstorm with people who have had experience starting up a Service Learning Centre on their campus and inquire as to some of the steps or contacts involved when trying to involve the community. How have you let them know exactly what it is your trying to achieve?

I am also in dire need of suggestions for an ethics class that I need to find placements for. When we talk ethics it inevitably runs into confidentiality issues and unfortunately the placements are too short (15 hours) to go through the madatory steps, such as police testing, Emergency First Aid, and a variety of other items.

I am also looking for Professional Development opportunities; anyone know of any conferences happening on the West Coast??

Thank You very much to anyone who responds to this LONG request! I am still trying to get my feet wet in this position and would appreciate any suggestions.
