Dear Service-Learning Colleagues,

Please note that the registration deadline is quickly approaching for our
upcoming conference, "Interdisciplinary Service-Learning: Best Practices
in Health Professions Education," December 3-6, 1998 in Lexington, KY.
The registration deadline is November 2. Even if you are unable to submit
payment until after that date, please be sure to fax your registration to
us by or on November 2. If you have any questions, please contact Kara
Connors, associate director, by emailing ccph@itsa.ucsf.edu and use the
email header "question about Kentucky conference"

The conference is designed for newcomers to service-learning as well as
those of you who are already involved in service-learning and seeking to
expand your knowledge and skills. Workshop sessions will help expand your
knowledge of service-learning in health professions education, strategies
for interdisciplinary service-learning, and the value of interdisciplinary
collaboration in building healthier communities. You will leave the
conference with new skills, tools and techniques for building effective
teams, developing and improving interdisciplinary service-learning courses
and programs, and assessing effectiveness and impact. The conference is
being held in collaboration with the University of Kentucky, one of
seventeen institutions to participate in the Health Professions Schools in
Service to the Nation Program, a national demonstration program of
service-learning in health professions education sponsored by The Pew
Charitable Trusts, the Corporation for National Service and the Health
Resources and Services Administration.

American Association of Higher Education

Julie Sebastian, assistant dean for advanced practice nursing at the
University of Kentucky College of Nursing and program director for the
interdisciplinary service-learning program at the University

Barbara Holland, associate provost for strategic planning and outreach at
Northern Kentucky University, and co-director of a national evaluation of
service-learning in health professions education

Sarena Seifer, director of the Health Professions Schools in Service to
the Nation Program and executive director of Community-Campus Partnerships
for Health
