THE ERNEST A. LYNTON RESEARCH GRANTS
FOR THE STUDY OF URBAN AND METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITIES
1997-98 Competition
The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities, the publisher of
"Metropolitan Universities" journal, funds a small research grant
competition each year.
The Ernest A. Lynton Research Grant program will award up to three
$5,000 grants to teams or individuals for the pursuit of applied research on issues
relevant to the mission and performance of urban and metropolitan universities.
Proposed research projects should be practical in nature and seek to expand our
understanding of the quality, impact, productivity, and characteristics of urban an
metropolitan universities. Appropriate topics might include research on aspects of
access, educational effectiveness or innovation, student characteristics/needs,
characteristics of community partnerships, impact on community, faculty
scholarship, or organizational characteristics.
Interested applicants must submit small, simple proposals for competitive
evaluation by a research committee of the Coalition. The deadline for
proposals is December 1, 1997. Proposed projects must be completed within one year
after awards are made in early 1998.
