I am also interested in the capstone experience concept but for high
school students. Centennial is an alternative high school and we
have long been involved in service learning programs. One of the ways
we integrate service into our regular classes is through a program
called Road Scholars. Students will spend 6 wks with a team of teachers
studying a different culture, history, geography and science of a
area. As a culmination of this study, they will then go to that region
for 10-14 days and become immersed in that culture. While there the
students work with the natives of that region on a service project
that has been arranged and coordinated ahead of time. Some of the trips
include: the Navajo Reservation, Sanostee, AZ, Moab, Utah,
Wanuskawan,Canada, Saskatoon.
