Pace University has a unique feature of having two seperate campuses.
One is located in downtown New York City and the other is Pleasantville,
Westchester County, New York. One campus is very urban and the
other is very suburban, more of what you would envision as you "typical"
college campus.
So, we have America Reads tutors on both campuses. Each group has
some similar and some very different experinces. So, seeing as
listserves have been so helpful for me, I thought it would be a
great idea to get the tutors from both campuses to communicate more
openly and freely. So, with help of the Technology Department here
at Pace University we have established a America Reads Tutors
Listserve. It is a public listserve so anyone can join.
So again, I thought that the other America Reads Tutors at other
colleges and universities would like the opportunity to communicate
with one another. They can share experiences, being careful not to
mention their site's name nor the names of any of the children there.
I also thought that this might help as a training tool. Students could
exchange information about things that they have done and if they were
successful. Afterall, this is one of the few areas in which playgerism
is welcomed. If a game, book, etc. worked well for some else chances
are it will work well for others as well.
So, I welcome you and the tutors in your programs to join!!!! We can
only benefit from sharing or experiences.
