> Hello Barb,
>
> At Virginia Commonwealth Univerisity we have a volunteer fair at the
> beginning of each Fall semester. We hold the fair outside of our
> University Student Commons (which is between several buildings that
> have classrooms) where there is heavy student traffic.
> Basically, we have our fair from 11am to 1pm. Students are
> generally having lunch or going to/ coming from class. We usually
> set up a small stage and have a student band or dj playing music which
> also attracts students. The music is provided by the Student
Goverment Association/ Activities Programming Board.
We do not provide food but the Student Goverment Association provides
a snack or lunch time food. In the past area businesses come out
and provide food as well.
>
At this fair, we are able to gather information from the students,
the student groups, and the area agencies on what would improve the
fair. I was also able to gather information on what type of
volunteers are needed, who wanted more information on service
learning, and what type of service activities students are interested
in. All of this information was gathered in a 1.5 page survey.
With this setup we have about 200-300 students come through the fair
> and pick up information. I am not aware of how many volunteers the
> community agencies or university groups actually receive.
I do know that this is an excellent way for all of the groups to gain
exposure. Overall, our volunteer fair is well attended and well recieved.
