To listserv: our email system was having technical problems yesterday and
this message which was sent by another participant on the listserv got
resent to all of you as though it had come from me. I apologize for this
glich. Just to clear the record, I am not familiar with this training
program and we have not used it in our programs at the University of
Pennsylvania's Center for Community Partnerships. I cannot comment one way
or the other on its usefulness. Thanks.

We have particiapted in a training that is wonderful for AmeriCorps
Members, community volunteers, and other students. It is called "Reading
Coaches" and it is facilitated by Mike Houston. He is the Program
Director of Kentucky Reads (SLICE CORPS). He has done this with his
corps for three years and has perfected a training. The training is a 2
day course and my corps loves it. They are utilizing all of the material
and it is working. Our schools love it because we use real books with
the students and engage them in conversation related to the books. The
Reading Coaching sessions are planned for a specific child and no two
plans look the same :) Check it out, ther are lots of corps around the
nation using his model. Mike can be reached at 502-586-2804.
