Program Associate: Experiential Learning Programs
Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs (HECUA)
St. Paul, Minnesota

HECUA is seeking a Program Associate whose duties include assisting the
Program Director in teaching seminars and coordinating internship
components in two college level, interdisciplinary, field study semester
programs in the Twin Cities that focus on dynamics of inequality and
strategies for social change. Strong desire to contribute to all facets of
non-traditional, innovative, experiential programs that integrate rigorous
theoretical course work, field work and internships is a must.

Responsibilities
Assist Program Director in teaching and facilitating classroom and field
seminars. Assist in curriculum development, design and program planning.
Coordinate program logistics and student services. Organize weekly field
study experiences that complement theoretical work and internship
experiences. Coordinate internship program, including student placements
(in a wide variety of Twin Cities non-profit and public agencies),
supervision and internship seminar. Assist in recruiting students for
HECUA programs. Develop seminars and special programs for HECUA
constituencies. Represent HECUA in the broader community. Other special
projects as assigned.

The Program Associate will carry out these responsibilities for both the
City Arts Spring program, an arts and social change curriculum, and Metro
Urban Studies Term Fall program (MUST), a social science curriculum on
inequality and social change.

Qualifications
REQUIRED: M.A., or B.A. plus at least five years related experience, in a
field related to the programs. Demonstrated ability in cross-disciplinary
work. Proven teaching or public speaking skills, strong organizational and
administrative skills, ability to relate effectively with students, faculty
and community contacts.
PREFERRED: Background in field related to City Arts. Knowledge and
experience in experiential education and alternative pedagogy. Experience
in internship programming.

HECUA is a consortium of 17 upper Midwest colleges and universities
dedicated to providing undergraduate students with in-depth, off-campus
field study in urban affairs and issues of social inequality. HECUA's six
semester programs in Scandinavia, Latin America and the U.S. explore social
issues and connect theory with experiential modes of learning. Over 2,000
students have participated in HECUA since its beginnings over 25 years ago.
