seeks a
Community Education Coordinator
This collaboration between the Center for University Outreach at
Carnegie Mellon University and the Community Literacy Center prepares
urban teenagers and mentors to explore roads leading to learning and the
culture of work using multimedia technology, writing, and dialogue to
support intercultural inquiry, problem solving, and life planning.
As a training center for community organization volunteers, staff, and
school faculty, it promotes a transformative vision of community-based,
technologically attuned learning linked to issues of work, identity, and
community-building.
Responsibilities of the Community Education Coordinator
- Build the Mentors Network, making presentations to community
organizations, schools, and businesses
- Offer consultation to community groups and teachers, including
pre-training planning, on-site visits, and phone and e-mail support
- Coordinate the Working Partners Mentoring Workshops and Teacher
Training Seminars
- Work with technology (multimedia computer programs, web sites & video)
that links learning and work
- Facilitate Community Problem-Solving Dialogues with community
organizations, schools, and businesses
- Publish the Working Partners Mentors Network newsletter
Requirements
The Coordinator needs a B.A. or B.S. (minimum), with skill and
experience in education, community-building, technology (or media),
experience working in the African-American community, guided by a vision
of love and justice.
Salary and Application
Salary range $38-42,000, negotiable depending on background and experience.
