The First Annual PHENND Conference
October 23-24, 1997
Swarthmore College

The Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development will
hold its first annual conference entitled, "The Community Responsibilities
of American Colleges and Universities." The conference will be Thursday,
October 23 and Friday, October 24 at Swarthmore College.

The conference will address two questions:

1. What responsibilities do colleges and universities have for the
well-being of their neighboring communities?

2. How can they fulfill their community responsibilities in ways that best
help them realize their educational and research goals?

There will be five panels addressing these two questions including a
presidents and provosts panel, faculty panel, student panel, and a community
members panel. These panels will be made up of representatives from PHENND
institutions.

The conference is free, but registration is required. If you have any
questions, please feel free to contact Terrilyn McCormick at (215) 898-4505
or by e-mail at terrilyn@dolphin.upenn.edu. Please contact Mr. McCormick
to register.
