Re: Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice - applications due 2/

Diane & Others,
We are fortunate that our campus has some special funds that we can apply
for to cover "instructionally related activities." We ask for funds to cover
the out-of-pocket costs that many of our students incur as part of their
service-learning. For example, students in our Art Education courses get
reimbursed for the cost of the art supplies they need for the activities
they lead with children, and students in a course that develops training
workshops get reimbursed for the training handbooks they develop for
community organizations. You may want to see if your Associated Students or
Alumni Foundation have any of these types of grant programs.

Does anyone have suggestions for handling the fees for child abuse and
criminal checks required by some agencies? They cost $ 20 in PA and I am
reluctant to ask students to pay that; however, it is cheaper than a
textbook and that may be the way faculty will have to put it.
This is for service-learning that is required in this course. I am sure it
will be more of a problem in courses that have s-l as an option.
Thanks
Diane
