dear dave,

the michigan journal of community service learning's upcoming fall 2003 issue (v 10, n 1, to be released in mid-november) includes an article, "Service-Learning and Engagement, Academic Challenge, and Retention," evincing favorable results vis-a-vis retention.

to order the journal, visit the web page at www.umich.edu/~mjcsl/

best wishes with making the case at your college.

We're preparing materials for a planning session designed to consider the

like to feature a discussion of educational research which provides a
compelling case for S-L. Of particular interest is research indicating
S-L as enhancing student retention and success (class engagement, grades,
achieving educational objectives, etc.). To supplement our research in
this regard it would be great to have any members of the S-L listserv
pass on your favorite/most compelling research references addressing
these S-L issues. Thanks.
