service-learning in Literature class

Hello all,
I'm working with a faculty member who is planning to incorporate 
Service-Learning into his Intro to Literature class for the first time this 
spring. The class involves looking at different theoretical approaches to, and 
the value of, literature. 
Does anyone have sample assignments, syllabi, and suggested readings for a 
Literature course that you would be willing to share?
