Register for the International Conference on Civic Education Research in New Orleans from November 16-18, 2003

by Morgan, William D.

21 October 2003 18:05 UTC

This should be a valuable conference for educators and researchers interested in civic education.  There are almost five hundred people on the program, discussing topics like civic education, service-learning and character education, in the context of schools, colleges, and the community.

If you are planning to attend and have not done so already, you should call the hotel immediately and make your room reservations.  The Hotel InterContinental has continued to expand the block of room for the conference, but they are getting full so be sure to reserve your hotel room right away (see below). They are almost full on Saturday, November 15th, though they have rooms for the 16th-19th.  As of today, they are still able to honor the conference rate, so please call right away to make reservations if you still need them.

Also, if you have not already registered for the conference, I would strongly encourage you to do so prior to the conference so you can avoid any wait while you register on-site.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

WHAT. This interdisciplinary conference will draw together researchers with a common interest in civic education, and the program contains eighty panels and seventy-five informal roundtables with almost five hundred people on the program. This research includes work on service-learning, moral education, character education, as well as policy research and work on the civic capacity and skills of citizens. It is inter-disciplinary and includes faculty from Education, Political Science, Sociology, Public Policy, Psychology and Evaluation as well as practitioners. The conference is international because it is relevant to scholars from other countries and it will include research from many different countries, not because the intent is to only study civic education in an international context.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS AND TRAVEL INFORMATION

TRAVEL INFORMATION. The conference will take place November 16th through 18th, 2003 at the Hotel Inter-Continental in New Orleans, Louisiana. The city of New Orleans is legendary for its lively celebrations and festive atmosphere. More than just the French Quarter, New Orleans has a large selection of eclectic antique stores and historic buildings, and the city boasts some of the best Jazz and Blues in the country, with remarkable restaurants and nightlife. And the weather in November is so pleasant!

HOTEL RESERVATIONS. The Hotel Inter-Continental is located two blocks from the French Quarter - close enough to easily walk over and visit, but far enough so the festive nature of Bourbon Street does not impose on the hotel. The Hotel Inter-Continental features 482 thoughtfully appointed guest rooms, 24-hour room service, and a multilingual concierge. For more information: http://www.intercontinental.com/usa/new_orleans/hotel_newic.shtml You may also call 1-504-585-4354 or 1-800-975-6652, the conference code is: CER.

You should be aware that there is a football game in New Orleans as well as other conferences, so if you are planning to stay in New Orleans on Saturday, you should make your room reservations as soon as possible to assure that you will have a room for Saturday night.

STAY IN A SUITE AT THE HOTEL INTER-CONTINENTAL. If you register at the Hotel Inter-Continental (the conference hotel), we will hold a drawing on October 15th and select one registered guest who will receive a complementary upgrade in their room reservations so they will stay in a suite at the hotel (four night limit). Enjoy your stay in New Orleans in style! (If you have room reservations at the hotel by October 14th, you will be automatically included in the drawing).
