Director, Sharpe Community Partnerships Program at the College of William and Mary

Sharpe Community Partnerships Program
The Sharpe Program coordinates community-based service and research projects that are linked with academic courses.  The freshman component of this program has now been in place for three years.  Freshman Scholars live in a common residence and enroll in one of a group of specially designated courses that are the basis for yearlong service-learning projects.  The next step for the program is to develop service-learning opportunities for students beyond the freshman year.

Responsibilities
The Director reports to the Dean of Honors and Interdisciplinary Studies, and has important outreach responsibilities to the faculty, the Office of Student Affairs, the Office of Admissions, and community partners.

The Director coordinates all aspects of the freshman Sharpe Scholars program, including recruitment of students, faculty, undergraduate fellows, and community partners; coordination of the freshman residential program and common course; and oversight of the community projects.

In addition, the Director maintains strong relationships with community partners; helps faculty at all levels of the curriculum incorporate community-based projects into their courses; develops new Sharpe initiatives beyond the freshman year program.     
 
Qualifications
The successful applicant must have:
·       Strong leadership skills and program management experience, especially in a college/university setting.
·       Excellent communication and organizational skills
·       A demonstrated and sustained commitment to community engagement and service, especially in the context of a liberal arts education and with diverse student and         community populations.
·       Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a relevant field desirable but not required.
