Student Speakers at commencement

Hello,

I am interested in hearing from anyone who works on a campus where a student
is a speaker at commencement. Specifically, I am interested in know how the
student is selected, and how the topic they speak on is selected.

Are they nominated, do they apply or do are they selected by a few top
officials on campus? What kind of response (candidates) do you get to a call
for nominations? Do you audition the students? Are their speeches well
recieved?

Any information would be helpful!

Thanks for this and all the other great info I get from the list!
