Subject:: Join us for the 2004 Gulf South Summit--- RFPS deadline extended to October 17

Thank you to everyone who submitted proposals for the Gulf South Summit March 24-26, 2003. Due to technical difficulties with e-mail submission Friday afternoon, we are extending the deadline to October 17, 2003. If you or a colleague want to submit a proposal but did not make the deadline, do not worry. Submit now!

 

If you have any questions, please contact me. I look forward to hearing from you and your colleagues in service-learning in the coming days. We have wonderful proposals for the conference!

Dear Colleagues,

 

On behalf of Tulane University’s Office of Service Learning and the Planning Committee for the Gulf South Summit, we would like to invite you to the 2nd Annual Gulf South Summit on Service Learning, Civic Engagement, and Positive Youth Development in New Orleans, LA on March 24 – March 26, 2004.

 

Join the more than 250 service learning practitioners (higher education faculty, staff and administrators; K-12 teachers and administrators; and community based organization representatives) expected to attend the Summit at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown New Orleans on world famous Canal Street.  

The goals of this year’s Summit are as follows:

1.      To build greater awareness of service-learning and civic engagement activities throughout the Gulf South.

2.      To facilitate dialogue and develop stronger professional connections among service-learning advocates and practitioners in the Gulf South.

3.      To foster the development of formal service-learning and civic engagement infrastructures within post-secondary institutions as a means of
institutional and faculty renewal.

4.      To provide a forum for presenting and discussing service-learning research.

5.      To explore the theoretical and practical implications of service-learning and civic engagement activities on higher education institutions and their communities.

6.      To create opportunities for developing and maintaining partnerships among K-12 schools, higher education institutions, and community-based
organizations.
