Dear Emily,
There is a group called the National Peer Review Board for the Scholarship
of Engagement. When invited, it will help do reviews of this dimension of
a faulty member's work, which often includes service-learning pedagogy. We
also have a website www.scholarshipofengagment.org where you can find
criteria, readings, FAQ's etc. There is also very helpful information on
the website of the New England Resource Center for Higher Education
(www.nerche.org) I personally think that the most important challenge in
writing one of these letter is to go beyond just emphasizing the service
and link it to the other two categories of faculty work, namely, teaching
and research/scholarship, since in most schools all three are not valued
equally.
Hope this helps.
