Re: Alternative Spring Breaks

Deb -
My first recommendation would be Break Away: The Alternative Break Connection.
Break Away is a national nonprofit organization based in Tallahassee, Florida
that trains students to create "active citizens" through their alternative
break programs. They offer site leader trainings at individual universities in
the fall and alternative break citizenship schools during the summer to train
leaders of alternative break programs. They offer a significant number of
resources and technical assistance by becoming a chapter member. You can visit
www.alternativebreaks.org for more info.
A second thought would be to contact other universities who run alternative
break programs, however, I caution you because many schools run what is
equivalent to a volunteer vacation. While these volunteer experiences are still
important, an alternative break can become a life-changing experience just like
a service-learning course/experience. Let me know if you need further
information!
