Returning to the List

Hello!

I just wanted to reintroduce myself to the list. I've been off for the past
18 months taking a "sabbatical" of sorts from academe. Having worked with
student community service/service-learning at Arizona State University and
Marquette University, I spent some time in the community in a central city
Catholic nursing home in Milwaukee. What an incredible, wonderful
experience! Fortunately I was never far from students, with many Marquette
students volunteering at the home, and many former students as residents
(Class of 1929, Class of 1940...).

I am now returning to higher ed and service-learning, having just accepted a
position as coordinator of service-learning at Long Beach City College (in
California--back home for me!). LBCC is new to SL, so it will be great to
watch the enthusiasm grow among faculty and students. I'll be working with a
teacher prep. program that partners LBCC with the local school district and
with Cal State Long Beach, so you'll likely hear me bringing up topics
relating to literacy education and exploring the dynamics of partnerships
such as ours.

It's good to be back!
