I have read the posting on this topic with a sense of deja vu.  The idea of
someone exploiting service-learning is not a new one.  Nor is it limited to
outside corporations.  Don't our institutions, and , in some cases,
professional associations, latch on to student service as a PR device?
IMHO, the question of what kinds of service are appropriate or
inappropriate is a question for reflection and a part of service learning,
not apart from the activity and subject to the mandates by s-l staff or
other experts.  The writings of Delve, Mintz, and Stewart and Morton of a
few years ago ilay out the issues very clearly and warrant attention from
folks in s-l.--D
