AmeriCorps Promise Fellowships

MAKE A DIFFERENCE THIS YEAR!!

Two AmeriCorps Promise Fellowship Opportunities 
at the Civic Literacy Project in Bloomington, Indiana

Help youth across Indiana become involved in community service and
service-learning addressing important needs like housing, literacy, and
tolerance. We have two positions available:

1) Develop and coordinate city and statewide programs including:
 * Plan and conduct a service project in another state or country;
 * Organize a two-day, statewide conference on service-learning;
 * Organize a four-day summer institute on service-learning.

2) Public relations and communication with state agencies and  non-profits
 * Develop a newsletter and a monthly "service-learning FAX" 
     that goes to 1500 schools;
 * Maintain and develop web pages to provide information to 
      students and teachers;
 * Work with schools on press releases and Op Ed articles 
      about their service-learning projects.

REQUIREMENTS: Interest and experience with community service is required,
and everyone volunteers on community service projects during the "seasons of
service." The ideal candidates will be highly motivated, have strong
organization and communication skills and have experience using MS Office.
Some local travel is required as is some limited national travel to
conferences or meetings. This is a one year, full-time Fellowship, starting
on or about November 1st, 2000. 

COMPENSATION: These are AmeriCorps Promise Fellowships and the stipends are
very competitive. Health insurance and an education award is also provided.
The education award can be used to pay for future classes or to pay off
student loans. Student loans are deferred during the Fellowship period.

The CIVIC LITERACY PROJECT is located in the Center for Participation and
Citizenship at Indiana University. We work with educators and students
across Indiana to foster civic education and to promote service-learning. We
have helped over 20,000 young people become involved in service-learning
over the past three years providing hundreds of thousands of hours of needed
service, in programs that have received national recognition. Help make a
