Full-Time Service-Learning Position
STAR SCHOOLS PROGRAM DIRECTOR
The STAR Schools Program (Service-learning and Teaching Aligned to
Reform Schools) is a new initiative of the Civic Literacy Project at Indiana
University. The Civic Literacy Project works with service-learning (K-H)
with over 20,000 young people participating in related programs over the
past three years.
The STAR Schools Program Director will manage the K-12 activities of
this initiative that is designed to help schools restructure teaching and
learning to emphasize student leadership, service-learning and community
connections. Responsibilities include conducting site visits and
coordinating the activities of the consultants who will be providing
professional development to the school staff. In addition, the Program
Director will coordinate a two-day state conference on service-learning and
a four-day summer institute for educators. The Program Director will also be
responsible for supervising two Fellows who will work in the office
full-time to coordinate professional development activities and public
relations activities.
Qualifications: A BA is required, and a degree in education, nonprofit
management or social work would be preferred. At least two years experience
working with nonprofits or educational institutions is required. Program
management and grant writing experience is preferred, as is experience with
service-learning and school reform.
Compensation and Benefits: Compensation is competitive. The benefits package
are those that are standard for professional staff at Indiana University and
includes retirement, health insurance, life insurance among others.
