Civil Rights/ASB trips
17 November 2000 21:23 UTC
Greetings all. I have a question and a posting.
Involved question: Next year Baldwin-Wallace College (Ohio) will be sending
students on an 8 week, curriculum based program called "Freedom Road" which
is an exploration of the Civil Rights Movement. 30 students will travel to
D.C., Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia, Loisiana, Mississippi, Alabama,
North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia. I'm looking for
sites/agencies that the students should/must visit in these states that are
closely tied to the civil rights theme. Ideally, they would also have the
option to participate in a meaningful service activity at these sites. Any
suggestions? Have any of you done a trip like this?

Posting: Many of you e-mailed me and asked that I send out the responses
regarding setting up new Alternative Spring Breaks. Some of you suggested
that a good way to find other ASB sites are:
www.volunteermatch.com
The "Response" Book - published through Catholic Network of Volunteer
Service
#800-543-5046
The "Connections" Book - published through St. Vincent Pallotti
#877-865-5465
seek help from Habitat at 1-800-HABITAT
check out ProPeru webpage at: http://pages.prodigynet/rawebb1/
I've alse found it to be useful to connect with local churches.
Thanks,
Meg Houghton
