Second Annual Conference
"Summer Service Learning: Focus on Youth"
GOALS: * To build on America's Promise - The Alliance for Youth
by exploring the possibilities for college and university students
to participate in service-learning experiences with youth during
summer months,
* to network and share success stories from other institutions,
* to explore several models that may be replicated at other schools,
* to increase awareness of summer months as an opportunity to
serve and learn in a for-credit program.
KEYNOTE ADDRESS: <bigger>Alex Kotlowitz
</bigger>Author of "The Other Side of the River" (1998) and
"There Are No Children Here" (1991).
We encourage schools to send teams of 2-3 people made up of faculty,
staff,
students.
The conference will begin Friday evening with dinner and will conclude
with
lunch on Sunday. The schedule will include such topics as the pedagogy
of
service-learning,the agency perspective, student issues, obstacles and
opportunities of partnerships, and an exhibit of existing programs and
ideas.
We encourage participants to bring materials about their programs for
display.
All activities will be held at the Center for Continuing Education on
campus with rooms at the Morris Inn across the street. Registration
will
be through the Center for Social Concerns. Food will be provided free
of
charge.
Rooms are: Single occupancy - $74
Double occupancy - $80
Registration Fee: $100.00 for a team of two......Registration forms
will be
available Aug. 15th
Registration Deadline - October 1st
