VISTA POSITIONS AT A COLLEGE IN SOUTH CENTRAL KANSAS

Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, Kansas, announces
VISTA positions will be available through Service Learning Central,
Incorporated. SLC hosts AmeriCorps state and national programs, a
Learn and Serve program, and several local initiatives.

In 1998/99, VISTA directives will include community strengthening
through developing and enhancing volunteer sites for college and
community volunteers. Positions open are set up to magnify the
effectiveness of campus and community volunteer centers, evaluating
effectiveness of service provided, and ensuring overall that SLC's
efforts both incorporate disadvantaged persons in community service
and directly address everyone's needs equitably.

VISTA members will serve collaboratively with AmeriCorps members in
education-based programming, literacy, and volunteer generation.
This includes enhancing host site orientation, agency coordination,
and the management of an afterschool enrichment program for at-risk
youth.

VISTA members will also be charged with the directive to explore
and develop resources to assist existing direct service providers
in effective assistance to the needy. Our VISTA members have had
access to training provided by the Grantsmanship Center, the
Indiana University Center on Philanthropy, and have the support of
campus grant writing staff. Our current VISTA's have carefully
cultivated community relations after a local volunteer summit that
have revealed many needs and resources that are to be drawn
together as our VISTA project continues.

Candidates for these positions will be joining an established team
and viable program. SLC has a dedicated board of directors composed
of student and community leaders, and our program is known for
excellent collaborations and CNS cross-stream involvement. A
complete description of our program is available, upon request.

Interviews will be conducted via telephone and on site in May and
June. All positions are pending grant renewal, but could start as
soon as June 21/July 24.
