Service Learning colleagues:
The following announcement appeared in the Philanthropy Journal Alert.
It seems to me that these types of reactionary movements are somewhat
inevitable and warrant our critical attention.

---***California group champions anti-volunteerism
The Ayn Rand Institute is offering community service internships to students who wish to end community service requirements in their schools, the Associated Press reports.
The institute, located in Marina del Rey, Calif., is based on the teachings of philosopher Ayn Rand, who believed government should do no more than ensure people leave each other alone.
"What mandated service is teaching is that it's selfish or evil to pursue your own goals," says Richard E. Ralston, the institute's director of development. "It is teaching that it is your duty to serve the government."
The Freedom of Choice internships will begin this fall and allow students to do research and conduct activities aimed at rolling back mandatory volunteer requirements.
