HELLO ALL!
I have used an email discussion listserv this past semester in a one
credit Wellness Volunteer Activities course here at Southern Methodist
University. Like the course at Nova Southeastern U. my class meets
infrequently (every other week). The class listserv has been a
wonderful venue to continue class discussions and relay information to
students. It kept students thinking about their service work between
class sessions and offered another opportunity for students to connect
with each other.
As Chris Koliba noted responses did tend to be descriptive and less
interactive than I had hoped. A few students were unfamiliar with email
and needed some help getting set up. While the listserv wasn't as
impactful as class reflection activities it can still be a viable avenue
for discussion and reflection.
