Hobart and William Smith Colleges:
Hobart and William Smith Colleges are a pair of coordinate
four-year liberal-arts colleges located
in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York.
Hobart College (for men) and William Smith College (for women)
share campus facilities,
curriculum, and faculty, while maintaining individual emphases
in other programming, activities, and
athletics.
Hobart, founded in 1822, and William Smith, founded in 1908,
also share a profound belief in the value
of undergraduate liberal arts education. The Colleges'
curriculum combines a strong grounding in
scholarly thought and tradition with a variety of
interdisciplinary, study-abroad, and other innovative
components.
Position Description:
Assist in the coordination of curricular, co-curricular, and
residentially based public service programs. Responsible for the
development and implementation of a variety of student service programs.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the America Reads program with local schools to
place tutors in preschool and elementary school classrooms in order to
provide literacy support for children. This will involve the following:
Work with local schools to create and administer reading
tutoring sessions.
Recruit, hire, and train HWS students.
Monitor tutoring sessions on a daily basis.
Coordinate transportation for tutors.
Administer payroll functions.
Assist with tutoring session when necessary.
- Serve as contact and advisor for HWS student service clubs.
- Assist in the implementation of annual service events.
- Performance of other functions as assigned or as necessary to
meet needs of the department.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field and 2 or more years of
experience in both public service and elementary education/literacy
environments. High level oral and written communication skills and
organizational skills. Able to work with people in diverse setting.
Database management, word processing, and spreadsheet skills on
MacIntosh are required. Experience in FileMaker Pro desired.
