Position Announcement: Summer Internship

Brain Food is the name of a new community-based organization that
develops and supports Washington, DC high school students through culinary
arts, mentoring, and business development. Scheduled to pilot in September
1998, Brain Food will use food and cooking as the vehicle to stimulate
improved academic performance, develop business skills and promote positive
relationships with role models.

Brain Food seeks a creative, highly motivated college, graduate, or
professional school student to serve as an intern in our Washington, DC
office. As an active participant in a start-up organization, Brain Food's
intern will have the opportunity to help shape the program and make lasting
contributions to Brain Food's work. Brain Food's summer intern will be
afforded a unique opportunity to combine research and action while working
at the local level to improve the lives of DC youth.

About The Internship: We prefer that our intern work 15 - 20 hours per
week. During the summer months a small transportation stipend is offered,
and we are willing to work closely with faculty members so that the Brain
Food intern may receive course credit.

Brain Food's 1998 summer internship will provide a behind-the-scenes look
at nonprofit start-up, involvement in program and curriculum development,
and exposure to the DC restaurant scene. Significant emphasis will be
placed on assisting with the development of the curriculum.
Responsibilities may include:

Researching relevant program models and other resources * Assisting with
developing lesson plans * Writing narrative descriptions of presentations,
and interactive exercises * Assisting with general administrative
functions * Assisting with recruitment of volunteers for After-school
Program * Assisting with other projects as assigned

How To Afford The Internship: In addition to seeking part-time jobs, many
students who work as interns in DC receive grants or financial aid from
their schools to supplement their income. Before deciding you cannot afford
the internship, please contact your school's financial aid office to see if
they can offer any assistance.
