Coordinator of Service Learning and 
Community Action 

The Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies at Emerson
College invites applications for the position of Coordinator of Service
Learning and Community Action.  The Coordinator of Service Learning and
Community Action is responsible for the development and coordination of
service learning partnerships between Emerson College and community based
organizations, non-profits, and public and private schools in the City of
Boston.   Specific duties include:   
*       Working with faculty to develop, promote, and coordinate service
learning curricula.
*       Identifying and maintaining internship placements for service
learning courses.
*       Establishing the Office of Service Learning and Community Action as
a campus-wide clearing house for internship opportunities and requests for
service from community agencies. 
*       Serving as a liaison between Emerson College and local, state, and
national community service programs.
*       Working with student organizations and residential floors to develop
leadership in areas of community service. 
*       Coordinating service events such as the Volunteer Fair and
Alternative Spring Break.
*       Supervising the development and maintenance of the SLCA website.
*       Developing external funding for service learning and community
involvement initiatives.  

Qualifications:  A Bachelors or Graduate Degree in a relevant discipline
(social or political science, humanities, urban studies, or education);
knowledge of campus-based service and service learning programs; previous
experience in higher education and/or community based organizations; ability
to work with economically and racially diverse populations; strong speaking
and writing skills; familiarity with office computing systems (email,
internet, word processing).  Knowledge of the City of Boston and experience
writing and administering grants from external agencies a plus.
