REGIONAL CONFERENCE

INSTITUTE ON ACADEMIC SERVICE-LEARNING:
"Connecting K-12, Communities, and Higher Education"
February 8-9, 2002
Eastern Michigan University

Connecting K-12, communities, and higher education is the focus of this
upcoming regional conference.  Join colleagues to share ideas and
explore challenges related to the successful development and
implementation of academic service-learning in K-12 and higher
education.  Youth participation is especially encouraged.  Conference
participants will be asked to pay a registration fee of $80.  Presenters
and youth will pay a reduced registration fee of $35.

CONFERENCE PROPOSALS
The program committee seeks presentations that address the following
four themes:

· Practice:  Proposals that incorporate best practices and/or lessons
learned.
· Community Partnerships: Proposals about how to generate, nurture, and
maintain
K-12, higher education, and community partnerships.
· Sustainability of Programs: Proposals about how to establish ongoing
use of academic service-learning.
· Research:  Proposals concerning empirical, applied, and participatory
action research, as well as collaborative research between K-12, higher
education, and communities.

SESSION FORMAT
Seventy-five minute sessions are organized around conference themes and
topics of interest to
AS-L practitioners.  Fifteen minutes at the end of each session will be
designated for interactive discussion.  Proposals in the following
formats are encouraged:

· Multiple Presenter Format
· Single Presenter Format
· Research Reports
· Roundtable Format
· Poster Sessions

4. Session organizer and additional presenters: name, institution/school
district, mailing address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail
address.

Description of Presentation
1. Title of presentation
2. Objectives for the session
3. Relation of the proposal to the theme
4. Fifty (50) word summary of the substantive  content of the session
5. Plans for participant involvement
6. Identification of audio-visual needs

Due Dates and Submissions
Proposals must be postmarked by Wednesday, August 1, 2001.  Proposals
sent by fax or e-mail are acceptable.  Send proposals to:
