Policies and Proceedures
14 May 2001 17:10 UTC
My name is Kim Crimmins and I am an AmeriCorps *VISTA at the University
of Idaho working to set up the UI Volunteer Center which is directly
linked to the office of Academic Service-Learning. We've been busy for
a whole semester now and we're to the phase of writing out our policies
and proceedures for our risk management office. I know that policies
and proceedures vary greatly depending upon location and university
insurance policies but I'm hoping for some general guidance on the
basics.
Could you share with me the proceedures you follow when looking for
agencies where students can volunteer. Are there certain criteria an
agency must meet before you will send students to volunteer? Do you
have written agreements with the agencies you work with?
I am also interested in the proceedures you follow when a student comes
to your office and wants to volunteer or participate in your
Service-Learning program. What information do you collect from the
student? What sort of forms does the student fill out? Is there a
screening process students must go through--especially if they will be
working with volunerable populations? Does your center provide a basic
orientation for volunteers? If so, what is included in the orientation?
Thank you everyone.
Yours in service,
Kim Crimmins
