TEN FLORIDA VISTA POSITIONS AVAILABLE
in a new Higher Education VISTA program!
Florida is launching a new and exciting statewide VISTA program. The
Florida Office of Collegiate Volunteerism and Florida Campus Compact will
oversee the initiative. VISTAs will be placed at ten campuses statewide to
bring together students and communities to create campus/community
partnerships. Students and community members will then work together,
through community service, to address needs associated with poverty
(literacy, mentoring, health, job skills, use of technology, migrant
workers, homelessness, etc.). Specific campuses will identify local needs
for the VISTA initiatives to address. Campus sites are now being
identified; priority will be given to campuses that do not have existing
campus volunteer centers.
Qualifications:
¨ Bachelors degree
¨ Extensive volunteer experience or work with volunteers
¨ Community organization skills and experience
¨ Management and interpersonal skills
¨ Fundraising and grant writing skills
¨ Computer and Internet skills
¨ Ability to work as both a leader and a member of a team
¨ Ability to take initiative and work independently
¨ A one-year commitment is required
Responsibilities
While individual campus/community projects are not yet chosen, each VISTA
will develop and oversee activities by including the process below:
1. conducting a community needs assessment and compiling a community asset
map
2. recruiting a task force representing each stakeholder associated with
the program's focus
3. partnering with community non-profits
4. leading the task force in strategic planning
5. publicizing the program
6. overseeing volunteer placements
7. supervising and administering service activities
8. seeking additional funds through grant writing and fundraising
9. conducting ongoing evaluation
10. soliciting feedback from the program participants and volunteers

Supervision:
A full-time campus staff member will provide daily supervision, as well as
space, necessary equipment, on-site training, and regular supervision
meetings. A VISTA Leader along with FOCV and FCC will provide training,
information, resources, access to FOCV's statewide database,
troubleshooting support, site visits, and ongoing supervision to all of the
sites and VISTAs.
