I think that the following article will be of interest to all. I haven't
been able ot find this article online. Due to the generic title, it's been
a difficult search. I can tell you that I have checked several colleges in
my area and each of them subscribed to this journal -- so ask your local
librarian for help tracking down the full article. (As a former college
librarian, I can tell you that we librarians are delighted with any
questions at this time of year!)

Have a good week! Ann

The "Voices" of Prespective Teachers on the Meaning and Value of Their
Service-learning. Education, Spring 2000 v120 i3 p461+

The Service-Learning (S-L) and Teacher Education Project (USC-SLATE) at the
University of South Carolina integrated the S-L paradigm into several
facets of its teacher education program. This study of the USC-SLATE
program 1) provides a brief description of the kinds of service-leaming
that teacher education students accomplish; 2) reports on students'
reflections on the meaning and value of their service-leaming; and 3) puts
forth implications of the students' views of S-L for creating truly
empowering service-learning in teacher education.
