The NJ Department of Education and Rider University would like to
invite you to the Second Annual New Jersey Service-Learning Fair. It will
be held on Monday, June 5, 2000 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Rider
University in Lawrenceville, NJ.
The Service-Learning Fair will serve as the statewide recognition event for
the New Jersey Service-Learning Leader Schools program. This national
initiative is designed to encourage improved teaching and learning through
high quality service-learning. Through this program, 17 high schools and 8
middle schools have been selected as New Jersey Leader School honorees.
New Jersey leads the nation with seven schools to be honored by the White
House for their outstanding service-learning efforts. Five high schools and
two middle schools from New Jersey have been selected as National
Service-Learning Leader Schools. Through a rigorous state and national
review process, the following schools have met the high standards of this
presidential recognition program.
* Academy of Holy Angels, Bergen County
* Cranford High School, Union County
* Delsea Regional Middle School, Gloucester County
* Hoboken Charter School, Hudson County
* John F. Kennedy Memorial High School, Middlesex County
* Linden High School, Union County
* Terence C. Reilly Middle School, Union County
The Service-Learning Fair will provide students and teachers with
the opportunity to showcase their award winning service-learning programs
and explain the impact on students, teachers, and the community. There will
also be an award ceremony to officially recognize all New Jersey Leader
School honorees.
