AmeriCorps positions in Oregon

AmeriCorps Member Positions with the
Youth Involvement Network of Oregon
AmeriCorps members serve as Service Learning Coordinators in schools
throughout
Oregon. Members provide students the opportunity to use what they are
learning
in the classroom in a way that is real and meaningful, while stressing the
value
of giving back to their communities. Members coordinate with teachers,
administrators and community-based organizations to provide service
opportunities for youth. Members also promote youth volunteerism and
develop
youth leadership. During the summer, members lead intensive service
projects
for teams of youth. Members receive an intensive pre-service training and
may
earn up to 10 graduate credits through Portland State University.
Fourteen AmeriCorps member positions available. Members will:
Provide service learning opportunities for youth during school hours,
after-school hours, and some weekends.
Serve as a resource for youth volunteer opportunities.
Partner with teachers, administrators and students at school placements.
Build relationships with local community-based organizations.
Organize and implement service projects for spring and summer break.
Implement and develop youth leadership opportunities and training.
Involve at least 250 youth in service learning.
Attend and actively participate in AmeriCorps member training, meetings, and
events.
Collect and report data on service-learning activities, and maintain
accurate,
up-to-date records.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree
Experience and interest in education, youth, and community development
Two AmeriCorps Team Leader positions available. Team Leaders will:
Perform the duties of first-year AmeriCorps members as detailed above.
Serve as liaisons between members and program staff.
Conduct regular meetings and occasional training with members.
Serve as a resource and mentor to members.
Requirements:
One prior term of AmeriCorps service
Bachelor's degree
Experience and interest in education, youth, and community development
Youth Involvement Network of Oregon AmeriCorps members will receive a modest
living allowance and health insurance. The term of service (1800 hours)
will
begin August 14, 2000 and end August 10, 2001. Upon completion of the term
of
service members will be eligible to receive an education award of $4725.
This
award can be applied to student loans or to finance further education.
