"How can schools and communities help ALL children learn?"
Dr. Edmund Gordon, noted author and former professor of social and policy
studies at Yale University, will present findings from his life-long study
of Education, Human Diversity and Social Justice. Dr. Gordon is a senior
advisor to the president of the College Board. Last year, he published his
most recent book, "Education and Social Justice: A view from the back of
the bus." He was the research director for Head Start and co-founder,
with his wife, of the Harriet Tubman Clinic for Children in New York City.
Dr. Gordon's presentation will be followed by a panel discussion featuring
national education leaders Professor William Trent, Professor William
Taylor of Georgetown Law School, Harvard Professor Gary Orfield, and local
leaders Dr. Shin of the Interdistrict Downtown School and Dr. Carol
Johnson, superintendent of Minneapolis Public Schools. The panel will be
moderated by IRP's executive director john powell.
Where: Cowles Auditorium at the Humphrey Institute on the University of
Minnesota's West Bank, 301 - 19th Ave. S., Minneapolis.
