COOL LEADERS 1998-99 CLASS NOW FORMING

The Campus Outreach Opportunity League (COOL) is pleased to announce
that applications for the second class of COOL Leaders are now
available.

WHAT IS THE COOL LEADERS PROGRAM?
The COOL Leaders Program is a year-long intensive leadership training
and development program for college students who are actively involved in
campus-based community service and service-learning programs. Funded by
a grant from the Corporation for National Service Learn & Serve America,
the primary purpose of COOL Leaders is to help strengthen and expand service
programs by providing increased training and support for emerging
student leaders.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The COOL Leaders Program provides training for college students to
develop and utilize their service and leadership skills. The goals of the
program are to provide students with:

* Practical skills training that will make the student a more effective
leader on campus and in the community.
* Exposure to a variety of other campus, regional and national
organizations in the field of community service, thus heightening their
opportunity for networking and learning.
* Resources and support to promote the improvement of service
programming on their campuses.
* An opportunity to help COOL refine existing programs and create new
ones that will help address the needs of the ever growing student service
movement.

COOL Leaders receive skills workshops, resource materials, on-going
support, training from COOL staff and other service leaders three times
per year, alumni mentoring, monthly mailings and a dedicated e-mail
discussion group (list-serv) just for them.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Students interested in applying to the COOL Leaders Program must be
active participants in an established campus-based service organization or
service-learning program. The applicant should have at least one year of
demonstrated student leadership involvement on campus and, ideally,
should have as least one year remaining in school beyond May of 1999.

COST TO PARTICIPATE:
Each school will be asked to sponsor the travel and registration cost
for all training activities. COOL though will be responsible for all food
