Serve a year with the WiCC AmeriCorps*VISTA Service-Learning Project
The Wisconsin K-16 AmeriCorps*VISTA service Learning Project will allow 35 AmeriCorps*VISTA members to serve as service-learning coordinators throughout Wisconsin. The project goals are to develop partnerships among higher education institutions and low-income communities to create strong, sustainable anti-poverty programs; to improve academic achievement and aspirations of low-income children in grades K-8; and to develop sustainable infrastructure for campus-based community service and service learning with a focus on anti poverty outcomes.
Job Description*coordinate service-learning initiatives that link course work to community work *assist with training and student development activities *recruit volunteers for school and community/ faith- based organizations *build bridges between postsecondary institutions, the community, and K-12 schools *work alongside volunteers in order to accomplish these goals
Eligibility *Excellent written and oral communication skills *Excellent organizational skills, including training, project management, public speaking event planning and implementation *Experience with the Internet, Microsoft Office software, and/or site-specific technology *Must be able to work well with a team as well as independently *Must be self-motivated and work well with minimal supervision *Experience in volunteer management *Knowledge, interest, and prior experience working with students and young people *Knowledge of the structure and governance of colleges, public schools, and/or nonprofit organizations. *Ability to drive and access to a vehicle (for placements in areas without adequate public transportation) *College degree (BA, BS) or equivalent *Strong interest and experience in community service and service-learning *Commitment to the mission of the project and its impact on communities Benefits*Great boost to your resume and experience in a field that interests you *Training and skill building *Living allowance (762-792 per month) *Health insurance *Student loan deferment *Relocation allowance (if you move) *You may also be eligible for childcare assistance should you need it *End-of-Year cash stipend of 1,200 or Educational Award of 4,725
