Teresa,

Andy Furco has a nice typology in his article "service-learning: a balanced
approach to experiential education" (it is part of the campus compact SL
toolkit) where pre-service experiences fit in as being more focused on the
provider (i.e. the student-teacher) and on learning. While I employ additional
service-learning components in my teacher-ed class, I think this typology is a
very nice articulation of how to think about teacher education experiences
within the context of SL.

I am interested in obtaining articles, feedback, etc., pertaining to
Service Learning as defined by Schools of Education. How would faculty in
Schools of Education classify pre-service experiences? Would you classify
the pre-service experience as Service Learning, Internships, etc? Any
help would be most appreciated.
