Those of you who plan to apply to CNCS for Learn and Serve America (or AmeriCorps or Senior Corps or AmeriCorps VISTA):

It has come to our attention that firewalls in many computer networks are causing difficulties in connecting to and using our electronic grants system, eGrants.  Apparently, because of the high degree of security in higher education institutions (and libraries), connecting to eGrants is a particular issue in these institutions.  These firewall issues are easily corrected by the system administrator for your network.

I urge you, if you have not already done so, to open your account in eGrants right away.  This will allow you time, should you need it, to address any technical difficulties that might arise.  As of today, there are 51 LSA applications open in eGrants.

In addition, please make arrangements to ensure that the individual who is your organization or institution's authorized representative will be able to log onto eGrants and authorize the application.  This is a person with officially delegated responsibility to receive or commit funds.

A college President or state school Superintendent might not personally go to the trouble of creating an account - BUT HIS OR HER DULY AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE IS REQUIRED TO DO SO in order to complete the application.    Every government agency must have an electronic grants capability.  Your organization is likely to have developed a strategy for approving applications electronically.  Please make sure you know how to do it.  You will not be able to submit your application without this step.

Thank you for your humor, your patience, and for opening your eGrants account today.
