UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT AMERICORPS*VISTA POSITION AVAILABLE

University of Vermont (UVM) and Vermont Campus Compact (VCC) announce the

2001-02 year.

Through the VCC VISTA program, an AmeriCorps*VISTA member will work at UVM
in a joint placement with the Departments of Residence Life and Student
Life. The A*VISTA will work to help UVM better respond to pressing issues
facing low-income communities by improving the quality of campus community
service and service learning programs, and by increasing the number of

With Residence Life, the member will:
·work to increase the number of on-campus students involved with off-campus
service opportunities
·make connections with community agencies and arrange service projects
·serve as a volunteer resource to resident assistants and other Residence

direct service and reflection
·serve as a resource to undergraduate student leaders of campus volunteer
programs
·assist with coordinating programs such as Community Serv-a-thon, Fill the

involve students in service

VCC AmeriCorps*VISTA volunteers begin their year of service with a week of
intensive training in facilitative leadership, student development, service
learning, and campus-based community service issues. This training enables
them to develop and provide assistance to students, staff, and faculty in
the areas of: service-learning, community partnerships, campus
collaboration, and student leadership in service. Training continues
throughout the year, and the A*VISTA works with the supervisors to design
the responsibilities of the position and shape the experience.

Qualifications:
·College degree (A.B. or B.A./B.S.)
·Strong interest and experience in college community
service/service-learning.
·Commitment to involving college students in their community as engaged
citizens.
·Knowledge of and/or interest in working with students, administrators, and
faculty.
·Proven leadership ability.
·Strong organizational skills, including project and multi-task management,
public speaking and event planning.
·Flexible attitude, initiative, creativity, and strong work ethic.
·Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

As a full-time AmeriCorps*VISTA member, the VCC VISTA volunteer is eligible
for:

or $1,200 cash award upon completion of service.
·Health insurance coverage.
·Travel expenses to participate in required VCC trainings.
·Monthly stipend of $750.00.
·Student loan forbearance.

In addition, UVM is working to offer the A*VISTA member an on-campus
