Research and Technology Coordinator, Service Integration Project

Colorado State University invites nominations and applications for the
position of Research and Technology Coordinator for the Service
Integration Project (SIP), Office for Service-Learning & Volunteer
Programs (SLVP). SLVP offers a continuum of service-learning and
volunteer opportunities for Colorado State University students. The
Service Integration Project (SIP), a program of the SLVP, promotes and
facilitates the development of service-learning in the curriculum.
Through professional development activities for faculty, students and
community partners; maintenance of resources such as a webpage, listserv
and manuals; and communications such as the Service Learning LINK
newsletter, SIP aims to expand awareness and competency in
service-learning. SIP is a joint partnership between the divisions of
Academic Affairs and Student Affairs at Colorado State University, a
major state university and land grant college with a wide array of
departments and programs addressing the needs of a student body of
approximately 21,000.
Colorado State is in Fort Collins, a city of 100,000 located 65 miles
north of Denver. The city offers a unique blend of metropolitan
advantages and small town friendliness. Located at the western edge of
the Great Plains and at the eastern base of the Rocky Mountain
foothills, Fort Collins, with its ideal climate, provides easy access to
numerous outdoor activities.
Position Description
The Research and Technology Coordinator will report to the Assistant
Director for Service-Learning and will be responsible for creating a
comprehensive research agenda for service-learning at Colorado State.
The research aspect of the position will include designing and
implementing a longitudinal study of student, faculty, and community
outcomes related to service-learning, providing technical assistance to
faculty involved in service-learning research and publishing/presenting
service-learning outcomes at Colorado State and nationally. The
technology aspect of the position will include maintaining a webpage,
database and other technologies that provide technical support to the
service-learning community. The Research and Technology Coordinator
must be a creative, energetic and organized individual who enjoys
implementing research strategies and working with people from diverse
backgrounds in a variety of settings. The Coordinator will work
independently to implement research and technology activities, while
working as a member of the SLVP administrative team to evaluate and
develop overall policies and procedures.
Specific Responsibilities
· Create research questions and a research agenda that reflects the
priorities of SIP, the Corporation for National Service and the field of
service-learning in general.
· Design and coordinate distribution of pre- and post-test instruments
to evaluate student service-learning outcomes related to social
responsibility, academic development and life skills.
· Design and implement strategies to assess impact of service-learning
on community partners and other community stakeholders.
· Design and implement strategies to assess the services of the Service
Integration Project and its impact on faculty, student and community
participants.
· Coordinate analysis of data and create reports, articles,
presentations and trainings base on research outcomes.
· Supervise a graduate practicum student who will assist with research
strategies; work with student staff to provide service-learning support
and to delegate clerical responsibilities.
· Provide technical assistance to Service-Learning Faculty Fellows who
are implementing service-learning research projects and assist all
service-learning faculty with publishing and presenting opportunities.
· Maintain SIP webpages pertaining to service-learning and technical
support; work with the SLVP Office Manager to maintain and provide
design consultation on the SLVP database and webpage.
· Actively assist the Director and Assistant Director in researching and
developing new areas of service-learning programming and technical
assistance.
· Participate as a staff member in the full activities of the SLVP
Office, assisting in staff development, office retreats, program
development and design, etc.
· Coordinate semi-annual program reports and assist in completing
Strategic Plans and annual reports.
· Represent service-learning on campus, community and state committees.
Qualifications
· Masters degree in Education, Social Work, Human Development, Student
Personnel, Business Administration or related degree.
· Demonstrated experience in research design and implementation.
· Demonstrated experience in education, community service
administration, community development/outreach or a similar field.
· Demonstrated experience with technological innovation such as database
maintenance, webpage design and manipulation of statistical software.
· Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to public service,
education, community outreach and diversity.
· Demonstrated ability to work successfully with community, faculty and
students.
· Understand and articulate a philosophy that supports links between the
educational sector and the community sector.
· Understand and articulate the needs and concerns of ethnically diverse
people, people with disabilities, women, and people with non-traditional
lifestyles.
· Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and writing
experience.
· Ability to work independently and creatively to solve problems, create
programs and to resolve differences.
· Willing to become a leader in the national service-learning movement.
Salary: $30,000 for a 12-month appointment with full benefits
package. Position contingent upon annual funding cycle. Start date
anticipated for early Fall, 2000.
