The Center
The Community Service Center was formed in 1986 and provides opportunities
for interested volunteers to address critical concerns of the community.
The Center operates numerous programs working in areas such as children's
education and mentoring, literacy, hunger, homelessness and the
environment.  Over 900 students contributed more than 45,000 hours of
service during the 1999-2000 academic year.

The Coordinator
The individual serves as the primary staff person supervising and managing
the Center's programs.  These programs include First-Year Student Outreach
Project, Student Food Rescue, Afterschool, Making Music, Alternative Spring
Breaks and Volunteers for Citizenship.  The Coordinator supervises a
graduate assistant and twenty part-time student program managers.  The
Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the Center's operations
including budgeting, van management (currently there are two), program
evaluation, staff and student training, publications, and program site
relations.  The coordinator also works with the Boston University
Development Office and the Office of Sponsored Programs to solicit and
manage external support and grants.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree required.  Master's degree preferred in an appropriate
field.  Professional experience working with program planning, student
organization advising, or community service management.  Experience and/or
familiarity with grant writing or application processes a plus.
