Title: Community Service Coordinator
Organization: Boston Youth Network (BYN) is an after school program for
at-risk adolescent youth ages 13-17, housed at the East Boston Social
Centers. Dedicated to the empowerment of young people, the program's
components include leadership development, life and career skills building,
community service, and educational and recreational activities.
Position: BYN is searching for a Community Service Coordinator to organize
and implement the community service learning component of the program. This
is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic person committed to youth
development and social justice to make a difference in the East Boston
community. The position is full-time, 35 hrs/week.
Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities are:
* With the support and direction of BYN Director, and the involvement of BYN
youth and community members, responsible for overall design and
implementation of community service programming, with a focus on
intergenerational programming.
* Develop and implement weekly service related learning activities, including
participant training, preparation, and regular reflection and evaluation.
Additional responsibilities include:
* Participant recruitment, curriculum development, and daily activities
planning.
* Leading workshops/discussions on topics including diversity, team-building,
life skills, communication/expression and career development, or finding
people who can.
* Assisting in public relations, regular meetings with students and parents,
event planning and implementation.
* Supervising youth daily in various recreational activities.
* Responding to crises as needed.
Preferred Qualifications/Qualities:
* Bilingual (Spanish)/bicultural and/or driver's license strongly preferred.
* Experience working with diverse, inner city youth, especially Boston youth.
* Excellent oral communication skills.
* Experience in program planning, community service learning, the non-profit
field, and intergenerational settings.
* Experience/education in adolescent development, counseling or related
field.
* Lots of energy, enthusiasm and creativity, with a great sense of humor and
a love of teenagers.
